We know what you’re thinking…

How did we wind up in Effingham County?

Let’s go back to the very beginning.

Our intentions at first were not centered around creating a conventional “zoo”, but rather a place where our deep love for animals could grow. Our many different species of birds, particularly pheasants, is what sparked our flame to opening our home to different types of animals. What started as chickens, geese, ginnies, and pheasants, outgrew to goats, horses, and cows.

Then Comes Lisa the Lynx

Amidst the growth of our farm, a unique opportunity arose when we were presented with the chance to adopt a Lynx, Lisa, that would live in South Carolina, as they are not allowed in Georgia due to licensing restrictions. As time went on, we felt most secure with Lisa living at our home with us, prompting an embark on a journey towards establishing our Ranch that we now know and love. It was on this pivotal day that we realized Hope Ranch was destined to become more than just a haven for our beloved farm animals. With heartfelt determination, we welcomed Lisa into her new home in Georgia, and she began to flourish!

The Process Begins

For anyone who is unaware, opening a ranch like ours requires a mixture of dedication, expertise, and thorough planning to ensure the well-being and welfare of the animals. It involves comprehensive knowledge of species-specific care, habitat design, safety protocols, veterinary support, and much more. Additionally, we had to obtain the appropriate permits, licenses, and adhere to the regulatory guidelines that are in best interest of our animal’s well being. Needless to say, we had our hands full!

Meet Our Escape Artists

While working endlessly on obtaining our appropriate certifications for Hope Ranch, an unexpected incident unfolded, causing a minor setback in our journey. It involved two mischievous Patas Monkeys who embarked on an impromptu adventure in Guyton, Ga. If you can think back to May of 2022 local news, this escapade was a hard story to miss. It stirred quite a commotion, considering the unsuitability of wild monkeys in South Georgia. In these trying times, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Effingham County and our incredible local community for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts, spanning countless hours, to ensure the safe return of Mel and Jerry back home!

That leads us to today, the culmination of our journey

Through the ups and downs, the challenges and triumphs, adventures and learning curves over the last few years, we stand with immense pride and joy, ready to extend a warm welcome to YOU to Hope Ranch! It is with open arms and hopeful hearts that we invite you to embark on an unforgettable experience. We hope that as you walk through our gates, you will be captivated by the same profound love and admiration for our remarkable animals that has guided us every step of the way. So, savor every moment, embrace the wonders that await, and may your day at Hope Ranch be filled with cherished memories and boundless delight.
